Wood Construction for the Fire Service

Fire service and assessment regarding the fire safety of any structure is considered a key component to establishing appropriate fire regulations. The many factors which are considered include fire hazards within the buildings, the number of people inhabiting the buildings at any given time, means of fire escape, fire containment, emergency facilities, alarm systems and the fire equipment available within any region (Wong, 2003). A main component in regards to fire hazard assessment of a structure is the type of construction materials used and the type of construction. One of the most common materials used in the construction of almost any structure is wood, a highly combustible material. Despite the combustibility of wood however, it can be positively used in construction when properly treated and properly applied with consideration of the fire hazards present within the building and in the environment.
