Actual Innocence
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page book review of the text Actual Innocence. The Innocence Project is a program based at the Cardozo Law School in New York, which is run by Barry Scheck and Peter Neufeld. Jim Dwyer is a columnist for The Daily News, a New York newspaper (Boyer). Their book, Actual Innocence, describes some of the cases reopened by the Innocence Project, which uses DNA evidence to exonerate innocent people wrongly accused, convicted and imprisoned. Their book describes harrowing narratives that indicate that obtaining criminal justice in this country is something of a hit-or-miss proposition in this country and that, in terms of justice, the majority of cases fall on the "miss" side of the equation. American Criminal Justice System: Three Important Issues
[ send me this paper ]
12 pages in length. The American criminal justice system face myriad challenges that threaten to undermine the very policies enacted to make the penal structure work smoothly amidst the ever-expansive criminal element. Examining the problems that exist within the system finds greater attention being paid to three specific issues pertaining to incarceration: prison overcrowding, prison privatization and the increase in women convicts. The main objective of this paper is to provide a literature review of research previously accomplished in each of the three areas as a way to synthesize - via the results - how they are all part of the same problem. Bibliography lists 13 sources.

An Argument for a Quick and Unceremonious Execution of Death Penalty Convictions
[ send me this paper ]
A 9 page contention that those who are sentenced to death should be quickly and unceremoniously executed. This contention is supported by the facts that the death penalty has been debated ad nauseum and has been upheld in one case after another, that stricter penalties and the application of those penalties are known to reduce crime, and that quick executions are economically more viable as they reduce costs to the criminal justice system and prevent the criminal from further profiting from their crime with book and movie deals and the like. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

Analysis of "Are Prisons Obsolete?"
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page paper analyzing the position of Angela Davis that prisons are racist, unjust and should be abolished. Davis (2003) presents compelling arguments for aligning prisons with racism and slavery, and the alternatives she provides certainly are worth pursuing. They are unlikely to have the effect she seeks, but merely calling attention to the issue in the way that she does effectively leads the reader to agree that the present system is indeed obsolete. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
